Formation rocheuse naturelle

Pour reprendre une définition de dictionnaire, une calanque est une formation géologique particulière se présentant sous forme d’un vallon en partie submergé par la mer. Elles ne portent ce nom que dans le sud-est de Marseille. Sur le Larousse, ils définissent les calanques par les falaises escarpées qui dominent la Méditerranée. Dans les deux cas, l’idée est de pouvoir effectuer une longue promenade sportive qui domine la mer.

Spécificités des calanques

Certaines calanques proposent en sus des activités supplémentaires, Port-miou et En-vau par exemple sont de parfaits terrains pour faire du kayak, et au pied des falaises d’En-vau, vous pourrez même apercevoir des sangliers qui se reposent sur les plages de galets.

Le Devenson, lui, est un exploit à atteindre en soi : rien que pour se rendre sur le sentier qui surplombe les falaises, il faut marcher pendant 2h10 depuis la ville de Luminy. Quant aux plages et aux contrebas, seuls les plaisanciers, les kayakistes et les grimpeurs assurés peuvent l’atteindre. Attention, il est plutôt dangereux.

Ressemblant au Devenson, l’Eissadon demande 1h30 de marche depuis le col de la Gardiole et n’est pas accessible aux simples randonneurs. Les kayakeurs se feront une joie néanmoins de le traverser puisque la traversée de l’Aiguille de l’Eissadon se fait à travers des crevasses.
